BioSynchronistics has changed my life! I became a Physical Therapist for many reasons, one being to self-treat. As a young child, I was “that patient”, the one who suffered from chronic pain that nobody had an answer for. Seven years into my career, I finally found that answer in BioSynchronistics. By the grace of God, events took place in my life that led me to Quality Physical Therapy, Inc. in Sturbridge, MA. I began by taking the “Introduction to BioSynchronistics” course in September of 2013. It was then that I learned the framework of the approach. To begin to understand BioSynchronistics took a shift in paradigm from conventional physical therapy. This shift in mindset must take place to allow the therapist to see the body functioning as a singular harmonious unit, needing only subtle cues at times to regain balance and begin to heal. I was open to this for many reasons, one being my personal experience with pain, and also my frustration as a therapist in not fully meeting the needs of my patients in my current practice.
Through this mental shift, I began to see and respect the human body as a very intricate being, striving to maintain balance and function, and having an intimate relationship among its many parts. I began practicing the “Unlayering” techniques and saw immediate results with my patients. My fascination quickly grew and I began having more questions and desiring to gain more knowledge into how the approach could be applied. I took the second course on BioSynchronistics in November 2013. This provided a deeper appreciation for the work, and the next layer of skills. The more I practiced, the more I yearned for more.
In March of 2014, I was blessed with the opportunity to be an intern for two weeks at Quality PT. I witnessed first hand how Carol and her staff were implementing this approach with a broad variety of patients and ailments. This is where I was really able to put it all together, so to speak. Everything I had learned began to make perfect sense. Patients got remarkably better very quickly, the staff was passionate and they created a healing environment. It was an awe-inspiring experience that I consider myself very fortunate to have been part of. BioSynchronistics literally takes the imbalances from injury out of the body. Instead of teaching the body to work around its imbalances, it places the body in balance to optimize healing and function. Where one might see and treat tendonitis, strains, or joint degeneration with traditional PT measures, a trained BioSynchronistics practitioner would ask the questions, “why is it there?” … “what is the body doing to protect or stabilize itself and why?” Our bodies desire freedom of movement and efficiency. When a therapist can provide the body those desires, it does not succumb to injury, pain, or dysfunction. One of the greatest things I was able to witness as an intern was the many different skills and applications that each therapist acquired to achieve said results. Once you understand the approach, you see there are many ways to address musculoskeletal symptoms. What matters is the shift in perspective.
This is groundbreaking material and has forever changed my practice. What Carol and Cheryl have done is unveil a beautiful approach that is continuing to change lives daily. I consider myself most blessed to have been guided to it, and there is no greater feeling than knowing that I am doing what I was born to do. Thank you to everyone at Quality Physical Therapy for aiding in restoring in me passion for my profession as a Physical Therapist.
